On January 25, 2018, Lawrence J. Casey and Richard L. Sampson, shareholders at Boston law firm Davis, Malm & D’Agostine, P.C., presented a “Protect It” seminar as part of the New England Business Association’s event series, “Life Cycle of Change at a Small Business.” The series is organized by the Association’s Technology & Innovation Committee, of which Mr. Casey is a member, and the Protect It seminar will be hosted at Davis Malm’s office.

Mr. Casey moderated the program, and Mr. Sampson served as a panelist. They were joined by Don Lander, project manager with OCD Tech and Arron Lavespere, business consultant at Connell & Curley Insurance Agency. The program addressed the challenges that small business executives face when trying to protect their IP, money, and network security. Panelists reviewed and explored various methods of protecting against piracy, breach of confidentially, and cyber-attacks through the use of technology, insurance, and legal protection.

Mr. Casey practices in the Business Law, Employment, and Litigation areas at Davis Malm. He has more than 30 years of experience successfully litigating complex employment-related matters on behalf of executives, professionals, and employers in trials in state and federal courts, arbitrations, and agency hearings. Mr. Casey has also argued appeals before the First Circuit Court of Appeals, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and Massachusetts Appeals Court.

Mr. Sampson practices in the Intellectual Property area at Davis Malm. He assists clients in obtaining, maintaining, and enforcing patents, trademarks, and copyrights throughout the world. The New England Business Association, formerly known as the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE), was founded in 1938 as a private not-for-profit association of approximately 600 member companies located throughout the six-state region. SBANE was initially established to provide a legislative voice for small business at the state and federal levels and to make practical information available to help business owners grow their companies. In 2017, SBANE rebranded as New England Business Association and embarked on an expanded mission to enhance the support, resources, and networking it provides to its members.
