Davis Malm shareholder William F. Griffin, Jr. published two legal guides to assist foreign real estate investors with important tax aspects of investing in residential real estate:

• Tax Guide for Foreign Investors in U.S. Residential Real Estate is intended to assist the foreign investor in U.S. real estate in understanding how the U.S. estate, gift and income tax rules affect his or her investment and the planning opportunities available to minimize U.S. taxes.
• A Basic Guide For Foreign Purchasers of Massachusetts Residential Property, co-authored with Davis Malm shareholder Amy L. Fracassini, is intended to inform and assist foreign nationals planning on investing in Massachusetts residential real estate. The guide discusses the nature of the Massachusetts residential real estate markets, identifies the various real estate professionals, and describes the process of purchasing real estate, with particular emphasis on condominium units, which are currently the most popular vehicles for foreign residential investment.

William Griffin practices in the Business Law and Real Estate and Public Finance areas. He primarily represents privately owned and publicly held businesses in a variety of business and real estate transactions. He has also acted as bond counsel in many tax-exempt bond financings.

Amy Fracassini practices in the Business Law and the Real Estate and Environmental areas. Her practice focuses on the representation of corporate clients in connection with sales and acquisitions of businesses, debt and equity financings, private placements, real estate matters, including commercial leasing and purchase and sale agreements, and general business matters.
