Davis Malm attorney Thomas S. Fitzpatrick successfully resolved a controversy with the Department of Social Services and the Department of Revenue for a pro bono client of the firm. A child support order was wrongfully continued against our client for several years after the child in question had been adopted. Despite the child's adoption, the DOR kept collecting child support from our client and turning it over to DSS. In 2003, Shelter Legal Services was able to persuade the DOR to stop the child support and asked Mr. Fitzpatrick to pursue reimbursement of the prior amounts that had been wrongfully taken from our client. Mr. Fitzpatrick was able to negotiate a full reimbursement to our client from DSS. Northeastern University School of Law co-op student, Sophie Migliazzo, provided valuable assistance to Mr. Fitzpatrick in achieving this result.
