On October 16, Davis Malm shareholder Gary M. Feldman served as a co-presenter for the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) seminar “Employment Policies.” This program is Unit 7 of MCLE’s 17-part Employment & Labor Law Professional Development Plan series. The seminar focused on how employment policies set forth an employer’s rules, benefits, and general expectations for the workplace, as well as the pitfalls to be aware of with these policies.

Mr. Feldman and his co-presenter, Laurie Alexander-Krom, provided insight on a variety of topics including:

  • Policies required under Federal and State law and those policies that employers should implement as best practices.
  • Typical employer mistakes and how to avoid them, including language to avoid and disclaimers to include.
  • Impact of Federal Labor Laws on policies for union and non-unionized workforces.
  • When and how often polices and employee guides should be updated.
  • How policies can help and hurt when a legal claim has been filed.

Gary M. Feldman practices in the Business Law, Employment, and Litigation areas. Mr. Feldman advises employers and business executives on all aspects of employment-related issues, policies and compliance, from recruitment and hiring to termination and workforce restructuring. He regularly litigates employment issues before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and in federal and state courts. He also regularly negotiates executive employment agreements, noncompetition agreements, intellectual property agreements, and severance agreements.
