Patents

A significant aspect of Davis Malm’s intellectual property practice involves patent prosecution. Strong patents are critical to protecting ideas, inventions, and assets. Whether a client is in the earliest stages of development and trying to gain access in the marketplace, is seeking to monetize through commercializing and licensing, or has built a robust portfolio and is positioning to sell, we work closely with clients to learn their business, understand their short- and long-term goals, and develop strategies to achieve their objectives.

Our clients range from inventors, startups and emerging companies to public and private companies and universities. We counsel clients in the full scope of patent procurement, from drafting and prosecution of applications through patent issuance and maintenance. We are skilled at crafting successful applications that build strong portfolios and withstand challenges. For clients involved in business transactions and contested matters, we prepare opinions as to patentability, validity, enforceability, infringement, and overall risk analysis.

We possess a combination of technical insight and legal expertise which allows us to understand the nuances of our clients’ businesses, effectively analyze issues, and guide our clients through the complexities of the patent process. One shareholder holds a master’s degree in electrical/computer engineering and a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
