Samuel B. Moskowitz Responds to Boston Business Journal Article Regarding Civil Legal Aid in Massachusetts

On March 6, The Boston Business Journal published a letter by Davis Malm shareholder Samuel B. Moskowitz in response to the article, “Advocates call for a $10M increase next year in Mass civil legal aid budget.” Mr. Moskowitz commented that the article created an inadvertent misperception of legal aid and its recipients. Mr. Moskowitz serves on the Board of Directors of Greater Boston Legal Services, and served as the Chair of the Equal Justice Coalition of Massachusetts for three years before stepping down in 2013. Throughout his three-decade legal career, he has dedicated himself to supporting civil legal aid. He began as an attorney for Birmingham Area Legal Services in Alabama. As a private attorney, for over ten years Mr. Moskowitz led a committee that created and operated the Boston Bar Association Lawyer for a Day Program at the Boston Housing Court. In 2006, he was awarded the Adams Pro Bono Publico Award by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court for his work on this program, which has been a model both in assisting low income litigants and in relieving the great burden pro se litigants have on the court.
